π A Major Milestone for ALBON βοΈ
Last month ALBON co-founders, John Phipps and Tom Bessell, had the privilege to pitch at the prestigious Hult Prize Foundation Lisbon Summit. This significant global competition summit seeks to empower young entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions for pressing social issues. Out of over 100,000 applicants from 120 countries, ALBON was selected among 50 startups to present its vision to an esteemed panel of judges in Lisbon.
π Why This Matters:
This opportunity was not just about competing for the USD 1,000,000 prize; it was a testament to our dedication to sustainability π± and our commitment to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. Specifically, our project aligns with SDG 13 π, which focuses on combating climate change. At ALBON, we are pioneering the use of algae to produce high-quality bio-fertiliser and carbon credits, directly addressing the reduction of atmospheric CO2 and ocean acidification.
π₯ The Experience:
The summit provided an invaluable platform to connect with like-minded innovators, receive mentorship from industry leaders, and refine our approach to making a global impact. The feedback and encouragement we received have reinforced our mission and motivated us to push the boundaries of whatβs possible in climate tech and sustainable agriculture.
π€ Gratitude:
We extend our heartfelt thanks to UNSW for their sponsorship and support, enabling our participation in this transformative event. We extend our thanks to Tom Catalan Wilson for his time as a UNSW pitch representative at ALBON during June 2024. We are also deeply grateful to the Hult Prizeorganisers, ISEG - Lisbon School of Economics & Management, EF Education First and all the incredible individuals we met at the summit.
